Since 1960, AML has been hard at work keeping Toronto’s cars safely on the road. It was in September of that year that Art French, a young, talented mechanic, and his wife Alice, a trained and experienced bookkeeper, put their names together to coin the title for their dream: Artenal Motors. Integrity, hard work and long hours were the backbone of their new business, providing means to raise their five children as well as earn the loyalty and respect of their increasing clientele.
Since that time, both Art & Alice have passed away, but their dream – now also known as AML Auto Service – has evolved into a small but modern corporation and a leader in both customer service and automotive service. We utilize high-tech diagnostic and repair equipment, extensive technical databases provided by Motor All-Data and Mitchell and continuous up-date training to ensure our ability to accurately diagnose and repair the modern automobile. Complete service records, coupled with regular service reminders, help our customers maintain their new or old vehicle in top shape and at the same time preserve both the vehicle’s warranty and its value. Our newsletter helps our customers understand their vehicles better and provides a means to update them on events and legislation concerning their vehicles and of changes we may be making within our company.
Now owned by the next generation Art French and his wife Rica, the same honesty, integrity and hard work remain the backbone of AML. The use of top-quality parts augments our own commitment to quality workmanship, and we provide a 3-year, 60,000 km warranty on all repairs done by us, as recommended, to back up that commitment
At AML, we believe that a job well done is a job that will stand the test of time. A job well done is one performed with patience, using the right tools and using the best available parts. To this end, our standard parts and labor warranty is 3 year or 60,000 kilometers, whichever occurs first on all repairs we perform as recommended and using our recommended parts, supplied by AML. Naturally, this is conditional upon the vehicle being used for normal driving, under normal driving conditions. In most cases where second line parts or other options may be chosen, parts and labor are guaranteed for a period of 1 year or 20,000 kilometers, whichever occurs first. Some exceptions may apply, such as in the case of extended or lifetime manufacturers’ warranties, which we honor as long as they remain in effect. Since warranty coverage varies from one part or manufacturer to another, it is important to confirm warranty coverage when having repairs performed.
Art is the second-generation owner of AML, having started working with his dad in the early 70’s, in a time when emission controls were still in their infancy. This was a transitional period in the trade, with electronics soon to start taking hold of the automotive industry. Learning and developing diagnostic skills became a passion of Art’s and has remained so throughout his career. Art still helps where he’s needed in the shops and remains as passionate as ever, although he now focuses his passion more on developing younger technicians and building the business to offer clients and employees the best experience possible in automotive service.
Rica started working with her husband Art in the mid-80’s as our customer service representative. Easy-going and easy to talk to, Rica became a favorite of customers and employees. She still helps with customer service and speaks with team members daily, at the same time keeping up with the company financials.
Represents the latest generation of the family business. Art’s nephew, he has a passion for customer service and works diligently to get the work done in a timely manner and to the customers’ satisfaction. Jay started out by taking care of the parking lot, sorting parts, and doing emission tests before moving to the front counter and becoming a service advisor. He continues to grow in that role as he moves into management.
Office Administrator/Junior Service Advisor
Has only been in automotive for about 6 years and continues to learn service consulting. Her office skills have been a boon to AML and we depend on her daily to keep us organized. Willing to do whatever she can to be helpful, she has driven customers home, returned parts, helped in the shop, and been a shining light in shop meetings, always contributing with ideas and suggestions.
Has been licensed since 1987. His experience goes back to the days of propane conversions on commercial vehicles in the 80’s, and he has worked at a variety of aftermarket repair facilities and dealerships over the years. Tim has been with AML for 15 years and we are grateful to have him with us.
Loves working in the automotive trade, having started on the assembly line in an American Motors plant. (Remember those, anyone?) Since then, Frank has worked in tire shops and independent service centers before landing at AML. Having suffered a serious neck injury earlier in his career, Frank is limited to light work, including driving customers, helping in the shop, taking in parts, and whatever else he can do without aggravating his neck.
Started his journey while visiting in Italy, working on European cars. He continued working on European cars in Toronto, earning his license in ’98 and soon after starting his own business in Leaside. The building he was working out of fell victim to condo development and Rocco went to work for other shops, eventually landing at
AML. His integrity and work ethic are beyond question, and we are proud to have him working with us. The highlight of Rocco’s career so far has been to work on his dream car, Ferrari.
Ryan is a relatively recent recruit. He started his journey in a small shop, worked his way up, went
to automotive school and is now at AML working towards an apprenticeship. He has done an excellent job so far with maintenance and tires and will soon be taking on more responsibility as his career in auto repair continues to develop.
Finished at the top of his co-op class in high school, catapulting him into a career in auto service. He enjoys working with his hands and especially enjoys interacting with customers and helping to solve their concerns. His friendly disposition and outgoing personality put him in an ideal position to take charge of customer
service when AML took over from Wendel Clarke Automotive at this location. Customers and technicians love him and we feel fortunate to have him on our team.
Rob started in the trade working on high-end European vehicles and has continued his journey for more than 35 years. Rob is passionate about correctly identifying the cause of a customer’s concern and proposing an effective repair. (Rob’s tools take up more space in our shop than most cars do!) We are proud to have Rob on our team and to have his expertise to help our young technicians learn from his experience.
Nick enjoyed maintaining his first car and enhancing vehicle performance as a hobby. He is now working towards an apprenticeship with AML. Nick has the makings of a good technician, and we are proud to have him on our team.
Has experience from both dealerships and independent repair facilities. He enjoys working on cars, as well as learning new things (which will never end in this trade) and came to AML for a better work-life balance and the opportunity to improve as a technician. Norville is close to becoming licensed in the trade and we feel
fortunate to have him on our team
Aslan is a hard-working family man whose passion is his family and staying healthy. He likes everything about cars, fixing them, driving them, looking at them!
Anthony started his tradesman’s journey with a national chain and then went to work in the same shop with his dad, Rob, so he could learn the trade from an expert. He is passionate about getting the job done right and likes problem-solving. A good recipe for a good technician!
